Before starting the actual installation, installation scripts will first extract the software to temporary location. By default the weblogic software will be extracted to the /tmp directory on Linux .

If your temp directory doesn’t have sufficient space left for storing the extract contents, it will show the error: Fatal error encountered during self-extraction. No space left on device

Steps to resolve the error Fatal error encountered during self-extraction No space left on device

  1. Remove the unwanted items from /tmp directory and free up space. Then start the weblogic installation again .

  1. Change the command to redirect the software extract location to other location where you have enough space.

Eg: If you have enough space in the /u10 directory you can redirect the temp location to /u10/temp using the below command. Create the directory temp under /u10 and run ,

               java -Djava.io.tmpdir=/u10/temp -jar wls1036_generic.jar

The weblogic installation will start without any error.
